"Canadian Expo to Market Cabo" Or rather it will if you sign up
If Los Cabos wants to pull out of the economic slump in a timely fashion it is important that we change the image of Mexico by marketing our destination for what it is, a beautiful, safe, healthy and friendly place." Brian "Cabo Guy" Blackburn said he realized that earlier this year, even before the swine flu hit, and has been busy organizing a 'Mexico Living Expo' for this fall in Vancouver designed to do just that, as well as take advantage of the pre-Olympics tourism the Canadian city is expecting.
"Much of the marketing of Cabo is directed at industry people," he says. "Travel agents, cruise lines and airlines rather than regular people who might like to invest down here." Blackburn, who was previously employed in the investment business sector and has worked with public and private international companies in the past has owned a home in Cabo for 15 years and has been a full-time resident for the past five.
"The Olympics start February 12. If all goes well with this expo we’ll scurry around and do the same thing during the games. I guess I would call the concept progressive marketing." Blackburn says he’s been to several different expos where there were simply too many booths and the mix of vendors eclectic and disorganized. This expo, which will have only 32 booths, should be "more intimate and focussed," he says.
It’s not cheap, and Blackburn suggests several related businesses may want to band together to rent booth space.
'Mexico Living Expo' will take place March 27th and 28th, 2010. Booth space in the main hall of the Sheraton Wall Center in downtown Vancouver is $2,000, and $1,000 for the foyer area.
